At Home in the Lehigh Valley

It is the most wonderful time of the year. The holidays are rapidly approaching and the Lehigh Valley is busy preparing spectacles and festivities for all to enjoy, especially those of us who are new to the area and will spend the season away from our nuclear families.

This year marks the second for us in the Valley so to say that we are experts on all the offerings would be an overstatement. Last year, we tried to venture to those events that were most popular by word of mouth, including the Christmas City Village in downtown Bethlehem and the Winter Light Spectacular at the Lehigh Valley Zoo. We believe in supporting local small businesses so we made an event out of shopping in Easton, Bethlehem, and Allentown on Small Business Saturday. This season we look forward once again to shopping local and to attending Chriskindlmarkt, Allentown’s Lights in the Parkway and the Koziar’s Christmas Village. We have family visiting during Christmas week so we will give them the PeepsFest experience at the Steel Stacks on New Year’s Eve.

We came from Galveston Island, Texas, where Christmas morning might be 75°. We host an annual holiday open house and on the day of our event here in the Lehigh Valley, it snowed six inches. This sort of weather activity would shut down the state of Texas so we were very concerned that no one would show up.  One thing we learned is even though “the weather outside is frightful” it will not deter the Lehigh Valley peeps from attending a warm and cozy holiday event. This was our first experience in managing a coat closet.

As we look with excitement to the 2018 holiday season, we are eager to host our open house and to spend time with the warm and friendly friends and neighbors that we have met along our journey.  Last year, they recognized that we were newbies to the area and embraced us and invited us into their homes for all holiday celebrations. It was these acts of kindness that truly ingrained us and made us feel at home in the Lehigh Valley area.
